This year, the “Dry January” challenge was not supported by the government, despite calls from 53 addiction experts. Thirty years after the Evin law, are we witnessing a decline in public policies to combat alcoholism? Is the alcohol lobby too strong in France? Can we reconcile cultural heritage and public health? In October, the High Health Authority highlighted the omnipresence of alcohol in our society and deplored the “inadequate response of the health system”, “lack of systematic identification” and “lack of diagnosis of alcohol consumption behavior and its complications”. Although alcohol consumption is decreasing in France, it remains the leading cause of hospitalization and the second leading cause of preventable deaths after tobacco. Alcohol is involved in 30% of fatal road accidents and 30% of cases of physical, psychological or sexual violence. Elizabeth Martichoux and her guests will debate these issues in a special program co-produced by LCP National/ Galaxie Presse in collaboration with MGEN. The program will air on Sunday, March 17 at 8 pm, with repeat broadcasts on Thursday, March 21 at 2 pm and Saturday, March 23 at 8:30 am. It will also be available on LCP.fr and the LCP YouTube channel.
