Catherine Vautrin, the Minister of Health, will be visiting Corrèze on Friday, March 15th. From the Brive hospital center, she will be announcing the creation of a palliative care unit in the department, the first of its kind.
Although the topic of end-of-life care is a national debate, the visit of the Minister of Health presents an opportunity for significant progress in the matter.
Creation of a palliative care unit in Corrèze:
“We are building a palliative care unit in Brive for the Corrèze,” the minister declared in a phone interview prior to her visit. “For me, this is very important: twenty-one departments in France do not have such a unit, including Corrèze, and the President of the Republic has made a commitment to provide one.”
The Brive hospital center already has several palliative care beds in its geriatric department. The creation of the new unit will not affect these arrangements, according to Catherine Vautrin. “The goal is to create a complete service, with new resources, reinforced teams…” Typically, such a unit comprises of between twelve and sixteen beds.
Accompanied by the new hospital director of Corrèze:
The Minister of Health will be visiting both the Brive and Tulle hospitals, signaling the new relationship that now exists between the hospitals of Corrèze and under a co-management scheme beginning in April.
“This co-management project has been in gestation for a long time,” recalls Catherine Vautrin. “The aim is to strengthen cooperation and to share support functions, including everything that is not medical in nature. This co-management will provide a coherent and more local range of health services.”
Thirty million euros more for the hospital:
The minister will take advantage of her visit to announce another piece of good news: “I am coming to Corrèze with a budget of 80 million euros, thanks to the Investiture Strategy.” Fifty million euros have been pledged, “and to support the implementation of this joint management, I am spending an additional thirty million euros,” emphasized the minister.
Investments in Brive, Tulle, and Ussel:
How will these funds be used? In Brive, in addition to the renovation of the emergency admission department, the creation of a pediatric sector, and the completion of ongoing works, there will be the restructuring of the operating rooms and the development of ambulatory surgery, as well as the construction of a consultation building and the expansion of hemodialysis services.
In Tulle, the goal is to support “major real estate projects authorized in 2022” with the enlargement of day hospital, the restructuring of emergency services and the SAMU, the reorganization of operating rooms, and the modernization of emergency services.
In Ussel, the works will begin in 2026 and end in 2028. Short-term plans include the renovation of buildings, the restructuring of operating rooms, and the creation of a dental center.
